The hospitality is a global industry that generates a wide range of career paths for qualified graduates in sectors from the hotel industry to tourism, food service and casinos. In the past, many hospitality jobs were seen as being low-skilled and not requiring any particular qualifications. However, 4hotelier said many positions in the modern industry demand both academic and practical skills to succeed. Some of the most popular hospitality jobs are in the hotel industry, which is a growing worldwide market. Entry-level roles can range from bellhops and housekeepers to concierges - and there are often opportunities to advance to administration, food service management and general hotel management. Those who reach these more advanced positions are responsible for overseeing the running of all the services related to their accommodation, from taking care of guests to cleaning and financial matters. Figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show there were 71,000 lodgings managers in the United States in 2006. The median average salary for the profession in May of that year was $42,320.  |
