It's Never Too Late To Begin A Health Care Career
19 November 2008
Health care can be a rewarding option for those seeking new careers.
People who decide to make mid-career changes are finding that increased job satisfaction can be one of the rewards.

This week, the New York Daily News profiled Heidi Sadowsky, 40, who left a career on Wall Street to become a nurse. Before the current economic slump began, Wall Street was seen as a bastion of high-paying job stability. Now, health care remains as the recession-proof industry.

"Health care jobs grow in good times and bad times," Labor Department analyst Jeff Weissenstein told the newspaper.

The report adds that home health aides are particularly in demand, and although the starting pay is low, these jobs are often seen as a steppingstone to other careers in health care, such as nursing. Other growing entry-level fields in the health care industry include dental assistants and medical assistants, while registered nurses also remain in high demand.

Also, James O. Armstrong wrote on fedsmith.com that there are currently growing needs for healthcare administrators, medical technologists, geriatric care managers and others.

"There are critical shortages of these men and women all over the United States in medical practices and hospitals everywhere," wrote Armstrong.
