A number of computing careers have been named among the most "recession-proof" jobs in the country. According to writer Laurence Shatkin, author of 150 Best Recession-Proof Jobs, some IT-related careers are also among the most highly-paid downturn-resistant positions, News Record reported. Top of the earnings list is the role of computer systems analyst, the site said. Positions in this field are currently growing at 29% a year. Other computing roles that continue to grow in a recession-hit economy are network systems analysts and data communications analysts, the news source added. According to the Department of Labor (DOL), computer systems analysts help organizations in many different industries to improve their efficiency by ensuring IT works effectively and new technologies are properly integrated into existing systems. This could involve designing and developing new networks, or configuring hardware and software to get the best results. Most analysts work with specific types of systems in areas such as business, accounting, science and engineering, the DOL added. In 2006, the profession employed around 504,000 people. Median earnings for computer systems analysts in May of that year were $69,760. |
