Graduates looking to pursue a career in corporate communications can improve their chances of landing the right job by targeting the industries and companies that interest them. The communications and marketing field can be highly competitive so when embarking on a job search, News Blaze said, graduates should try to be as specific as they can. If, for example, someone wanted a job in writing or corporate communications based in Los Angeles or Chicago, they should first breakdown the two areas and compile a list of locally-based companies in each. They should then research these firms in order to find the best fit for them, the site said. Research is often essential to landing a job in communications and once jobseekers have identified some potential employers, they need to find out the specific person in charge. "Sending a resume or cover letter to the wrong person or without mentioning a specific person can ruin your efforts," the site said. By targeting specific areas, industries, companies and people, graduates set themselves up with the best possible opportunity to find a great job in an exciting field, it added. In 2006, there were 243,000 communications and public relations specialists working the US. |
