Project Managers Rev Engines of the Economy

Project managers can inspire their teams during a downturn.
With the downturn biting, the role of project managers in firing the engines of the economy will be increasingly important in moving towards recovery.

According to Michelle LaBrosse of Cheetah Learning, good project management is important to all types of companies because it is the role that turns strategy into reality.

The site added that during a crisis, effective project managers must be adaptable and ready to change "with the pulse of the times". Agreements cannot be carved it stone and changes have to be communicated quickly to ensure no-one is left behind.

Furthermore, good project managers understand that a crisis can bind a team together - and it is part of their role to forge a sense of common purpose and use to drive towards a clear goal.

Motivation is another essential ingredient for recovery and project managers can maintain morale during difficult times by ensuring that contributions - even small ones - are acknowledged.

When the chips are down, people also need hope and that comes from active leadership that gives a team both passion and productivity, the site said.

According to the Department of Labor, some of the main industries for project management include construction, information technology and finance.
