More and more workers will find themselves employed in "green" jobs in the coming years, making a living from earth-friendly technologies and products. Earlier this year, MSNBC columnist Eve Tahmincioglu reported that some three million green jobs could be created over the next decade, with as many as 100,000 being created in the next several years alone. Much of this growth is fueled by increased demand among homeowners for environmentally friendly buildings and energy products, along with a great public policy interest in developing renewable fuel sources. "If you're looking for lifetime employment, this is the opportunity for you," author Bronwyn Llewellyn told MSNBC. The column cited two workers, one blue collar and one white collar, who had left their respective industries to begin stable and rewarding new careers in the clean energy industry. Meanwhile, Foster's Daily Democrat of Dover, New Hampshire, reports this week that under the incoming Obama administration's $150 billion energy plan, up to 20,000 new "green" jobs could be created in Southern New Hampshire alone in fields like construction, real estate and design, with average annual pay of $54,400. |
