For those in search of a fun and cutting-edge career, video game design may be just the thing. The field is so successful and rapidly growing that Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts, which has long been known for training students in math and science, founded the first Interactive Media and Game Development program in the country back in 2005. According to the Worcester Telegram and Gazette, the first group of students in this program is expected to graduate in the spring. "I looked at a lot of colleges with general technology programs
but those schools either didn't have any course of study in game design or only had it as a minor," student Alexander Schwartz told the newspaper. Despite the rapid growth of the field in recent years, the Bureau of Labor Statistics does not yet keep specific information on the video game design industry. The industry has also suffered downturns in the past, but prospects in the foreseeable continue to point to solid growth. However, Yahoo's video game blogger, Ben Silverman, recently wrote that interested workers can break into the field with little experience by pursuing jobs like video game testing, freelance writing for gaming publications, and working as support representatives for large online games. |
